The multifunctional ship model towing water tank is an important test facility for the research of dynamic performances of ships and various underwater vehicles. Located on Minhang Campus of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the towing tank is 300m long, 16m wide and 7.5m deep, and it’s equipped with a towing vehicle with a maximum speed of 10m/s and rail facility, and a multi-unit wave generating system on one side of the tank body. The towing water tank, when completed, can be used to carry out ship model resistance test, propeller performance test, wave-resistant performance test, maneuvering performance test and self-propulsion and control tests of special underwater vehicles, being of important significance to cutting-edge scientific research and industrial support services.

Located on Xuhui Campus of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, this laboratory was built in 1958 as the earliest dual-rail ship towing tank in new China.
The towing tank of the laboratory is 110m long, 6.0m wide and 3.0m deep, and the maximum towing speed can be 6.0m/s. The plunger type wave generator can generate regular and irregular waves with a top wave height of 0.30m. The laboratory occupies a total area of 1,980 square meters with 8 employees and fixed equipment assets of more than 4.2 million yuan. The laboratory equipment is mainly composed of a testing system and a ship model processing system. The instruments and devices of the test system mainly include a ship towing vehicle, towing rail, towing control system, wave generating system, test data acquisition and processing system, wave resistance meter, propeller dynamometer, ship model propulsion and control devices, self-propelled ship model, various measuring sensors, etc. The ship model processing system is mainly composed of cutting machines, planers, machine tools, veneer presses, a traveling crane, plotters, etc. |
